When sourcing cleanroom consumables from China, the first specification to request is not the facility classification certificate — it is the product-level test report showing Helmke drum particle counts and NVR data from actual production lots. Facility classification tells you where the product was made. Product test data tells you whether it will perform in your process.

The sourcing mistake with the most costly consequences is qualifying a supplier on first-article data and then assuming ongoing production will match. We have documented cases where a Chinese supplier passed initial qualification with Helmke drum counts below 800 particles ≥0.5 µm per cubic foot, then delivered production lots exceeding 2,500 particles — a 3× increase — after a substrate change that was never disclosed.
